VDM has once again proven that influence, when used responsibly, can be a powerful force for good in Nigeria. In a time when many voices speak but few are truly heard, VDM’s impact stood out clearly during the recent Ekpoma protest. Through his intervention and influence, the first set of Ekpoma students who were arrested during the protest have now been released.
This outcome did not happen in isolation. It was achieved with the support of the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy, a man who continues to distinguish himself through action rather than mere words. His role in ensuring the release of these students is yet another example of the commendable work he has been doing across the state.
It is widely known that gaining praise or recognition from VDM is not an easy feat. He is not one to hand out commendations lightly. That is why Dr. Paddy earning the recognition of the Ratel’s President speaks volumes about his commitment and effectiveness. It is a testament to leadership that listens, responds, and delivers results when it matters most.
In a society where many claim influence but fail to make tangible impact, this moment draws a clear line between noise and substance. Unlike others, such as Dmumu, who, in the opinion of many, cannot even influence matters within their own household, Dr. Paddy has demonstrated real leadership by helping to secure the freedom of these students.
This is the kind of governance Nigerians hope to see more of: leadership that is proactive, compassionate, and effective. One can only hope that Dr. Paddy continues on this path of good work, and that more public officials learn that true influence lies not in titles, but in positive impact on people’s lives.
